No, it wasn't
Fox News chairman Roger Ailes is whining that former President Clinton's tongue-lashing of Fox News Sunday anchor Chris Wallace was "an assault on all journalists."
Well, no it wasn't. It was a reaction by Clinton to the persistent and demonstrated rightwing, conservative Republican slant of Fox News in general and to questions from Wallace in particular.Clinton was one of the few Democratic guests on Fox to dispense with the polite fiction that the network really is "fair and balanced" in its approach to covering and analyzing the news. And amen to that.
Postscript: here's a terrific column by E.J. Dionne of the Washington Post defending Clinton and pointing out that it was a long time in coming. His strongest point: he notes how the right began attacking Clinton over his supposed mishandling of the terror fight just three weeks after Sept. 11, 2001, but reacted with visceral anger if anyone tried to question Bush's eight months of inaction after he was inaugurated.
