Score one for Bill Clinton

I suspect I speak for many liberal Democrats when I say how satisfying it was to hear former President Clinton give a tongue-lashing to Fox News Sunday anchor Chris Wallace the other day. Wallace, the son of Mike Wallace, recently retired, more or less, from CBS "60 Minutes," had lured Clinton onto his show with a promise to spend at least half the show talking about the former President's Global Initiative on climate change, but quickly got down to the business at hand, promoting the latest rightwing myth-making, i.e., that the 9/11 terrorist attacks were all Clinton's fault. You may recall this got its first big boost in the recent ABC myth-u-drama, "Path to 9/11."

As Clinton forcefully pointed out, at least he tried to get Osama bin Laden, to much "Wag the Dog" criticism from the right. That effort stopped between the day George W. Bush was inaugurated and September 11, 2001.

Clinton dispensed with the polite fiction usually observed by guests from the other side on Fox that the network is really "fair and balanced" and not slanted toward right-wing conservatism. As anyone who has read David Brock's book, "Blinded by the Right" or has half a brain knows, there WAS a vast rightwing conspiracy against Bill and Hillary Clinton. Now I'm not sure what Clinton expected from Fox, but at least he didn't do an Alan Colmes and play deaf, dumb, and blind to what was really going on.

Hoowah!

p.s. Here's a fascinating story about Clinton and the Republicans. It was revenge for Nixon.
